There are three categories of Banks
1) PSU: State bank Of India, Bank of Baroda , Punjab National Bank,Indian Bank,Canara Bank etc
2) Cooperative: There are many local Cooperative banks in India. Some of the are prominent Cooperative banks are Saraswat Bank, Cosmos bank, Shamrao vital.
3) Private: The most aggressive Private banks are HDFC, ICICI, AXIS, Kotak, IDFC.

PSU banks :
While SBI has its own selection process, all the other PSU banks conduct their selection process through common exam conducted by IBPS
For both of them 3 different kind of entry levels are there :
1) Clerical
2) Probationary officer
3) Specialist officer: ( MBA , CA , Lawyers , IT , Agriculture )
All these exams have three stage selection process :
1) Prelims
2) Mains
3) Interviews
And all these exams mainly test candidates on
*Mathematical
*Verbal
*Logical Skills
Prelims: There are three sections
Maths . English . Reasoning
Mains :There are 4 sections
Maths . Reasoning . Verbal and Banking and Current Affairs
Apart from these four sections even Descriptive English is a part of it.
For Specialist Officers there is added section of Relevant Domain Knowledge which tests candidates on their specific subject matter experties.
Interviews : A candidate after having cleared Mains Exam is supposed to appear for interview process .
The interview panel is of experienced Bankers, which judges a candidate on various aspects like inter and intra personal Skills , Attitude , Confidence, Academics and Future Potential .

Private Banks :
While private banks are known to be very aggressive in hiring and firing , they do offer exciting careers .
The Private banks offer Very Fast Growth and Incentives. Banks like HDFC , Kotak ICICI are known to give Fat Pay Packets to Performers.
